After today’s breakfast a trip along the Pacific coast was planned. We needed about 45 minutes until we had left the heavy L.A. traffic and reached the beach of Malibu. Then we drove on Highway No 1, the so-called “dream-road”.

It was a wonderful ride. The ocean had a beautiful color, driving made fun. After about 2 hours we reached Santa Barbara. There we felt a little hungry so we were looking for a Subway. That was found quite fast near the station, where also a free parking lot was offered.

After lunch we started to explore the city by foot. But at first a stop was made at a Starbucks – the coffee was really strong, for American rates it was nearly to be named mocha. After having our coffee we went on, we were looking for a post office – at home some people were waiting for some postcards. We found one, and noticed whilst buying stamps that the price has risen for 4 cents. But – with a total of 98 cents for a postcards or a letter to Germany it is still much cheaper than at home.

Afterwards we took a walk through this really nice city. Next time we could spend some days here! A really amiable place, nice decorated streets, shops, cafes and restaurants – and one can see people walking at the streets here.

Early in the afternoon we headed back. Some miles on the freeway, and then on the dream-road again. We passed a military airport, saw some planes landing. Then we reached the coast again. A first stop was made but we couldn’t get to the water because of a fence. So we drove on and reached the city limits of Malibu. Here we could stop again and get to the beach, what especially made our youngest one happy. And on the other side of the road we could see some mansions of the “rich and beautiful”. There were very nice houses among them!

Then we drove to the motel, another hour laid before us. It’s really gigantic over which area L.A. including its suburbs is expanding: from the outer limits of L.A. county, which is the city limits of Malibu, up to our motel near the airport – which is nearly in the middle of the city seen in north-south-direction – it were a little more than 35 miles or 56 kilometers… But, despite the rush-hour, we could manage even those relatively fast and without problems and after a short break start over for today’s dinner.

We went to Norma’s Restaurant once again. Today the service team from the first day was there again. Although our waitress wasn’t on top as those from the previous days it tasted very well again, and no-one had to leave hungry.

Then we made an easy evening, before leaving L.A. tomorrow.
