Today was the last day of our holiday in the U.S.A. We wanted to give the motel breakfast another chance, but when we came there they had not even bread there. Also on inquiry there was none, only bagels – and that was not everyone’s cup of tea. And the geniality also let a lot to be desired, what apparently is a daily occurrence at this motel. So we turned on our heels and went to McDonalds (the first time during our stay!). There the breakfast was ok, cheaper than all before, and no one stayed hungry.

Back to the motel, and then we made another trip into the city of San Francisco. The Golden Gate Park was today’s destination. This time we didn’t take the freeway, and that went much better, one could even see other parts of town. After half an hour we reached our destination and we started to explore the park.

First we noticed a lot of school kids who rehearsed some songs, probably for the forthcoming Memorial Day. We went on, passed the Japanese Garden, which required an entrance fee. We saved the money and went to the Botanical Garden. This was free of charge and beautifully made. A lot of different plants were to gaze at; we could walk around and relax. Also some preschool and school grades were using the Botanical Garden for vivid nature studies.

Afterwards we went to the Rose Garden. There many beds with the most beautiful roses were to see and to smell, and of course a lot of pictures could be taken. A really lovely arrangement! Finally we went back to the parking garage, picked up our car and drove back to the motel. We enjoyed a last coffee at Starbucks and made a stop-over at a mall. There we also found something readable for the flight back.

Arrived at the motel our rooms still weren’t ready. Also the internet connection wasn’t working yet, so we couldn’t check if anything has changed with our flights – that’s why we decided to make a quick trip to the airport. This time we took the free airport shuttle which brought us to terminal 1 within 20 minutes. There we verified our flight data and made a little tour with the AirTrain, just to check how long it would take from the car rentals to the terminals so we could easier estimate time needed tomorrow.

Following this we took the shuttle back to the motel and went on for dinner. We had seen the Lyon’s Restaurant during our trip in the morning – it looked relatively well and wasn’t far away from the motel. There we went tonight. Unfortunately it lasted quite long until the waitress took our order. The dishes were ok, even if nothing special. But we got enough – and in private we looked forward to our domestic meals.

Back at the motel we packed our bags, and then we went to bed, because the alarm clock would ring pretty early next morning.
