After a quick motel breakfast - bagels, English muffins, jelly, and coffee - we entered THE dream-road: Highway No 1, the road which leads alongside the Pacific.
A never-ending number of turns lay before us, but all this was rewarded with fantastic vistas. The ocean had such wonderful colors today - blue, turquoise, green, and grey. Sometimes wafts of mist were passing and affecting the view on the ocean a little.
Additionally to the lots of turns the road climbed again, it led through woods and meadows. On the right hand side there was the ocean deep down, on the left hand side steep rocks and alp meadows, also numerous redwoods stood along the way.
And we could even watch some animals. A few lazy sea lions lay on sand banks and some sea gulls were crossing our way, not shy at all. Herons, eagles and some other birds could be spotted.
The traffic became heavier; we came nearer to San Francisco. Along highways with many lanes we drove towards the Richmond-San Rafael Bridge to cross the bay. This bridge is about 5.5 miles long and spans the bay on two levels.
Now we only had to go for a few more miles through the vicinity of San Francisco, then we reached our motel, the Days Inn in Milpitas. This one will be our home for the next 4 days.
Dinner we had at Home Town Buffet, tasty, but much too much...
In the end we had an easy evening.
