The day today started well: some were not really awake, compared to yesterday it was nearly chilly outside – below 30°C. The breakfast was alright, but suddenly we heard a little appalled, short screaming – the contents of a cup of coffee found its way over the table and hit the trousers of one of our party…

After breakfast we started towards Lake Havasu City. It’s not too far away so we reached it after about 45 minutes. First of all we went into a mall, obviously a comparatively new one, because a lot of shops were still empty and a lot of building utensils still were to see. The visit was successful – dresses, trousers, shirts and shoes found happy new owners. Then we went on, our main destination here was the London Bridge. But – where it was? We suspected it in the London Bridge Road, where we – after a short search in the wrong direction – finally found the correct way. A short walk at 40°C and it was in front of us: that bridge which once led over the river Thames in London, before it was bought by an American, dismantled in London and rebuilt in Lake Havasu City over a channel (more precisely, the channel was built after rebuilding the bridge).

After a visiting tour the growling of our stomachs was not possible to ignore anymore. We found a burger shop, the burgers were tasty and worth the money. After lunch we drove on southward, towards Parker Dam, which once again dammed to Colorado River. This one is smaller than Hoover Dam so the visit didn’t last too long. Then we drove towards Parker and headed to California again. We had to make an unscheduled stop at a customs station to get back to Needles. The tour took little more than an hour and led over long, straight roads.

Back in Needles we needed some minutes of rest, nothing exceptional at temperatures of 41°C. Then we wrote some emails, afterwards we went for dinner. Today we had chosen – by recommendation of the motel clerk – the Wagon Wheel Restaurant, where fine steaks should be served. We parked between two Sheriff’s cars – if the one was among them whom we had seen the day before we don’t know. And they indeed had tasty steaks! The beer was fine, too, and the check surprised us once again – it was against our guesses below $100.

On the way back to the motel we stopped at a gas station where the gallon cost more than $3 for the first time. In the motel we took a refreshing bath in the pool before we had an easeful evening and went to bed not too late to be ready for tomorrow’s tour.
